Sammy's assignment begins in June in Sharjah with a three-match ODI series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), before the ICC Men's World Cup 2023 Qualifier competition in Zimbabwe. Andre Coley, a former keeper-batter, has been designated head coach of the Test and 'A' teams by CWI. In the July home series against India, Coley debuts with the senior squad.
Sammy stated of his position, "It will be a challenge, but one that I'm ready for and excited about. "I'm incredibly excited about the chance, especially in light of the talent we have and the effect I hope to have on the locker room. I think my playing style will carry over into my coaching career, including my enthusiasm, drive for achievement, and unwavering devotion to West Indies cricket.
